For the browsing audience this is probably the most straightforward model available, because they can be directed to a lot of new sites they wouldn't have otherwise found. But why does it work for the people clicking the links, as opposed to a standard approach?

This is a typical "no fluff, just stuff" situation. And in the end it means the visitors will see what they're interested in, not some random cool graphics you throw at them.

As stated above, site visitors adopt this advertising mechanism, because it is efficient in leading them to pages of interest and can offer ton of things they really want to see. Someone coming across an article on adsense was probably looking for shoes or doing research on shoes when they came across the article.

And most importantly for everyone, including visitors, this scheme can only improve as the process gets further refined to make ads more relevant to what you're looking for, not just a couple of keywords on a site.

Nowadays, it is because of AdSense that Internet surfers are looking after more interesting related things from banners, and the companies behind the site (Google and the advertiser) need to have better ideas to display, as expectations have increased a great deal.

So could "Do no evil" actually work in today's cut throat competitive marketplace? Well, as you can see it can and it does. And you, as a visitor are the one who gets to enjoy this the most. Advertising becomes less of a burden and more of a benefit, and is still a benefit you can choose to ignore.

Less obtrusive banners; banners that you're actually likely to be interested in and click means you'll be less annoyed by surfing the web and feel like you as a visitor being offered a relevant service.

Although some may feel reluctant to read articles that are there purely to compel consumers, undoubtedly without this consideration they are useful. Ultimately the adverts mean that you don’t have to go back to your homepage every time you are compelled to complete a purchase.

Using Link Bait To Attract Massive Free Traffic

Here is a technique I have long used to attract massive free traffic to some of my websites. Recently, more and more people are discussing this largely intuitive technique, and giving it a variety of names. The name I most embrace is "link bait."

"Link bait" is anything that you put on your site that encourages others to link to your site, and then drive massive amounts of free traffic to your site by telling others about it. It's some feature that by it's very nature makes others reference your site and want to tell others about it.

Examples of this could be a service that they need to visit your site to access, or an outstanding article that they have to visit your site to read, or even some type of list that they need to visit your site to access.

Examples of link bait that I can think of (actual and hypothetical)... things that would cause other webmasters, publishers, and just people in general to send you traffic include:

* The site http://formatit.com/ has a software utility that formats emails for free. This is where I format all of my ezines and emails to a max of 65 characters per line ;-)

* The site http://selfpromotion.com/ has a program that allows you to semi-automatically submit your sites to all of the major and minor search engines and directories for free.

* A site that has a listing of all the major blog directories.

* A site that has a listing of all the major places to "ping"
when posting to your blog.

* A recipe conversion chart on a cooking site.

* A chart showing calories burned during various exercises.

* A listing (with hot links) and maybe reviews of major internet marketing forums.

* A list of 100 top rated directories to submit your ezine articles to.

* A list of the 100 most popular baby names.

* A list of foods considered aphrodisiacs... and why they work.

... you get the idea!

If you can incorporate something similar to the above on your blog or site, then after the word gets out, it will be natural for people to link to you. They'll feel good linking to and telling others about your site. People enjoy appearing "in the
know."

You should do some brainstorming today, and see what ideas you can come up with for link bait to add to you site and then tell the world about.

As I said, it can even be an article. For example, an article on how to really optimize a website, 20 top traffic generation methods, some type of webmaster tricks, etc.

As an example, I recently wrote an article, which I expanded into an ebook called "20 Insider Techniques Of A Super Affiliate." I recently decided to post these techniques as a 20-part series to my blog at http://WillieCrawford.com/blog/

Once people start referring to this series, it will attract traffic to my blog for a very long time. The key then is to have links in my blog's navigation that make it easy to locate this series even months from now!

Go ahead... do some brainstorming, and then put some link bait on your site. Then tell a few others and ask them to help spread the word. After all, link bait only works if the word gets out. Once it does, the flow of traffic will become unstoppable.

So you have a blog and want to market it and make it a successful blog. How do you do this? How do you go about getting your blog out there to be seen and known by others? How do you draw readers and keep them coming back for more? There are many ways to get your blog out there and known by others. This can be known as challenging for some and just quite easy for others. If you have ever had a successful blog before then you know what it takes.

You are not going to get anywhere by just setting up a blog and hoping that people will find it and read it. You are not going to gain any links, nor a higher search engine ranking by just having a blog. This is all part of blog marketing. Anyone can do it, even you.

Successful blog marketing tip number one. When you first create a blog, of course it is unheard of. No one knows anything about the blog unless you give them the link and show it to them. However, for a new blog that has never been seen, there are many ways to get it out there and known. You just need to know how. The first thing that you can do is to allow RSS feeds be taken from your blog. Allow other websites and blogs to publish your same exact blog. When you do this, they are giving you a link back to your blog, and also telling their readers all about your blog. You will get more traffic than ever with this tool. RSS feeds are wonderful for promoting and getting your blog out there.

Blog marketing tip number two. Update your blog frequently. We can not put enough emphasis on this tip. If you tell your readers that you are going to update your blog daily, then do it. If you tell them that you will be writing in your blog weekly, don't let them down. Your readers are what makes your blog successful. You may not realize this in the beginning, and you will have few readers in the beginning as well, but you will eventually build a readership base and have people checking out your blog regularly.

Maybe you do not plan on telling your readers how often you will update your blog. That is ok too. However, think about this, if you were reading a blog on a weekly basis, and you expected to see the blog that you like to read updated at least once a week, you would be very disappointed to find out that it was not. Sure, things happen that might prevent you from updating, and that is expected, and excused, but week after week can hurt you and cause you to lose readers. Tip number three. While you are working on your readership base, and trying to gain readers, you are going to find that commenting on blogs that are relevant to yours will surely help. Find a blog that is on the same topic to yours, or close to it and leave comments. You can also make a track back with your blog postings to comment on your own blog. Doing so will probably more than likely give someone else the urge to track back to your blog. Which will be good for it as well. Commenting on blogs that get many comments will make yours be seen by those interested in that market. You will gain traffic and readers that way, and it is easy as well as free.

The fourth blog marketing tip. Learn and apply SEO to your blogs. SEO is search engine optimization. You are going to find that if you want your blog to go anywhere, you need SEO, and you need to know how to use it to the advantage of your blog. The next step would be to customize your blog. Rather than having the same old blog interface like everyone else has, make your unique and interesting to look at. This will also help anyone from getting your blog confused with others that look just like it. There are so many types of blog software on the market that having your own look should not be that difficult to accomplish.

Keyword research is another very important part of blog marketing. If you are not using the keywords that people search on, then chances are no one is going to find your blog. Have a variety of keywords in your blog as well. Not just the same one over and over. Not everyone just uses the term 'sunglasses' when they are searching for shades to keep the sun out of their eyes. Keyword research is an important factor to remember.

Once you have done your keyword research, you will want to write content based on the research you have done. That will also result in people searching on those particular terms able to find your blog.

Pinging your blog frequently is another good way to get your blog seen. Every time that you update it, use the ping tools to ping it. This will let all of the blog directories know that you have added something new to your blog. This also brings you in some more traffic.

Blog marketing is pretty much the same as website marketing. However, if you have never had a website, and are not familiar with marketing these great tips will help you get started. Millions of websites attempt to seduce Google and its competitors to score high search engine rankings. But what is the best path to this lucrative romance?

While there are more than a few website promotion tactics, you have two primary means to establish a relationship: court Google and other search engines with alluring web content; or simply pay to get lucky.

Pay per click campaigns

This popular search engine marketing tactic can get you substantial presence in just hours or days. However, after you clear the floor of fraudulent clicks (from competitors eating up your marketing budget) and tire kickers, you might end up with less-than-anticipated conversions, if any at all.

Big businesses with hefty marketing budgets might be able to absorb such losses. But if you're a relatively small business, blowing your budget with nothing to show for it can be crippling.

Depending on the market demand for your keywords and clicks, a pay per click campaign could range from just a few dollars to thousands per day. Hence, if you go this route, be sure to have someone well informed and reputable conduct meticulous testing and analysis on your behalf. That way, you can identify what's not working and swiftly make adjustments to improve conversion efficiencies.

Organic search engine optimization

Organic search engine optimization (SEO) is achieved by optimizing your web content with the right keywords and acquiring inbound links. Both tactics help boost search engine rankings and drive traffic to your site.

The con of this website promotion strategy is it typically takes three to six months to advance to search engines' top pages. However, once you get there, it's possible to maintain your position with no budget and little effort.

Plus, web users consider organic search results to be more trustworthy than pay per click ads, hence, potential clients are twice as likely to click on the organic listings. Moreover, organic results build credibility in the marketplace, which further establishes your business and brand for long-term success.

Wear a white hat

If you can afford it, a combination of organic search engine optimization and pay per click advertising can generate leads and sales in both the short and long term. But if you have to choose between the two, going organic provides the most significant margins over the long term.

Regardless of the website promotion route you choose, your web content must promote usability and readability, and comprise strategic calls to action to turn the additional traffic into sales.

Most webmasters are always looking for new and inventive ways to drive traffic to their website. There are many proven methods of getting the traffic to a website, but if that new increase in traffic does not convert into sales, then is it still worth the effort that you put into getting that traffic?

I had a discussion recently with a colleague about generating traffic from outside of our target market. As a result of our discussion, we decided that we certainly could utilize various markets to get a huge boost in traffic, but since this traffic would likely not result in any conversions, that there was really no point in spending the time and effort on going after that traffic.

In a previous "experiment" on one of my websites, I started using the social networking tactic to generate traffic. I bookmarked a page of my site and submitted to many of the standard sites like, www.digg.com, www.reddit.com, www.furl.net, www.spurl.net, etc.

By doing this, I was able to get a huge increase in traffic to the site for a couple of days. The problem is, that I did not get one single conversion from this new traffic. I used a catchy headline and a good description of the article that I submitted to the social networking sites, good enough to get people to come visit the page anyway. But with the lack of getting a single conversion, it really did not seem worthwhile to me to do again in the future.

Now I know that some of you might be thinking, "Well, his sales pitch must be terrible" or that "His website is poorly designed." If this were the case, I would have no problem admitting to this, but when I compare the untargeted traffic that I received from the social book marking sites to the targeted traffic that I see from organic searches I can see a big difference in conversion rates. The targeted traffic that comes from organic searches generally results in a 5-8% conversion rate. The untargeted traffic resulted in a 0% conversion rate.

How To Talk To Prospects Who Are In Your Target Market

The above results lead me to believe that a much better use of my time would be to focus more on the targeted market and to stop wasting time on the untargeted visitors. There are many techniques that can be used to find prospects in your target market. Many of these techniques are old news to experienced webmasters.

Some of these methods include contextual marketing through programs such as AdWords, posting on relevant forums, improving your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for the organic traffic, and submitting articles to article repositories. You can also buy paid advertising in newsletters that cater to the people who are most likely to buy your products or services. These are just a handful of the methods that a Webmaster could utilize to get in touch with his or her target market.

Each of the above listed methods has their pros and cons.

Time commitment and ongoing financial commitments are two of the cons that are mentioned on a regular basis.

The pros given with all five typically represent tightly targeted traffic, suitably primed for conversion to paying customers.

The Dick Cheney Analogy

The Dick Cheney analogy has often been used to talk about this subject. Should you use the Rifle Approach or the Shotgun Approach?

The Rifle Approach lets you pinpoint your target and to hit it with great accuracy and frequency. The Shotgun Approach is sending a number or projectiles into a flock of birds and hoping you hit something. Dick Cheney proved that the shotgun sometimes hits its mark. (tongue-in-cheek people, tongue-in-cheek.)

For example, if you are selling health related products, then a media buy in WebMD would make good sense. People browsing WebMD are already interested in health and therefore are more likely to buy your health related products. People who are browsing on Myspace are not motivated to think about their own health at the time they see your ad, so your chances of success with Myspace ads are greatly diminished.

So, if you are going to expend time and money to attract visitors to your website, shouldn't you take care to primarily target people who are most likely to buy what you are selling?

Playing The Odds To Our Favor

11. Your personality is what attracts people to you so why would you create a generic website with all of the excitement of a flat glass of pop. Keep the content fresh so it has Fizz!
12. Most importantly, have realistic expectations of what you want to achieve with your website. With all the hype about overnight successes on the internet it's difficult to put your results into perspective. If you expect instant success and it isn't happening it's easy to become demoralized and quit before you reach your goal.

In the world of IT management, ITIL is the buzzword being heard around the globe. So what is ITIL and how does it affect your organization? Let's take a closer look!

Today's IT management has become more and more complex causing organizations worldwide to seek a standards based approach to IT management. The "IT Infrastructure Library", commonly referred to as ITIL(r), has become the most popular framework for best practices standardization worldwide.

While ITIL(r) is now embraced globally; it was originally created by the United Kingdom Government. ITIL (r) was developed in the 1980's by the CCTA, a predecessor of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). There, a team of CCTA staff embarked on documenting a common sense approach to managing IT services that would improve consistency while maintaining cost efficiency. Using a compilation of then best practices and their experience, the first IT Infrastructure Library(r) was developed. The OGC, still owns ITIL(r).

So what exactly is ITIL(r)? ITIL(r) is a series of best practice documentation materials that are used to aid the implementation of a framework for IT Service Management, or quoting the OGC: "a consistent and comprehensive documentation of best practice for IT Service Management". Since its development in the 1980s, ITIL(r) has undergone two major revisions:

Version 1 - 1986 – 1999: The original function-based practice of 40+ books dealing with a variety of IT practices.

Version 2 – 1999 – 2006: V2 of ITIL(r).

Process-based practice of 8 'sets' and the globally accepted best practice framework for ITSM (Information Technology Service Management). The sets include:

Planning to Implement Service Management

ICT Infrastructure Management

Business Perspectives Volumes I and II

Software Asset Management

Application Management

Security Management

Soon to be released in 2007 is Version 3. This new updated version will include:

Version 3 – 2007 - ??: V3 of ITIL(r).

Service lifecycle-based practice will incorporate the essentials of V1 and V2 and tested current best practice for ITSM. Five lifecycle titles forming the core of V3 ITIL(r) practice will include:

While Version 3 will include improved and modernized practices, tried and true standards from Versions 1 and 2 will be preserved. Lots of people know how to write, but not everyone knows how to write well, especially when it comes to writing an article for publication. In these instances, it is imperative that what is written be as error free as possible. Once something is printed, it cannot be corrected, and unfortunately, people will notice. Here are a few things I have learned not to do when writing for the general public.

Misspelled Words

Ever written an article, published it, and then discovered you had misspelled a word? Spell-check is a wonderful thing, but it doesn't catch every error. For instance, if a word is spelled correctly but is not being used in the proper context, spell-check is likely to pass right over it. That is what happened to me when I accidentally typed the word "pubic" instead of "public" in the middle of an article. My computer and I both failed to recognize the error, but millions of readers everywhere were treated to a nice, little chuckle on my behalf. That embarrassing incident taught me to always have someone else check my writing before releasing it to print.

Incorrect Word Choice

Some words are not only spelled similarly, but have similar meanings as well. This can lead to a lot of confusion for both writers and readers. Some examples include "it's" versus "its" and "may be" versus "maybe". Again, these are things that may not be recognized by spell-check software. Even if the distinctions between the words are subtle, it is still very important that they be used correctly. Somebody, somewhere will not only notice the mistake, but will have no problem pointing it out to whoever will listen. It is always better to be certain about a word's proper use before committing it to print, than to learn about the error from a reader after the fact. Sometimes, the dictionary is a writer's best friend.

Big Words and Lengthy Sentences

In college I studied mostly English and Philosophy. I wrote more papers than I care to remember, but one thing I do recall is being encouraged to write a variety of different sentence lengths and to be creative in my word choices. I was instructed to write down my deepest thoughts as thoroughly as possible and not be afraid to over-explain them. This may have been great advice for writing a theme or an essay, but it doesn't go over very well with most media publications.

I have found that people who read newspapers or internet articles want to be able to find information quickly. They tend to scan articles first to see if they want to read the whole thing. College professors may appreciate flowery words and sentences, but the general public prefers a more straightforward approach. Keep it simple, seriously.

Check the Facts

Believe me, there is nothing more embarrassing than spouting off about something, only to have it brought to your attention (by a reader) that your facts are a little off. For instance, I once wrote an article that included a reference to Orson Wells' book 1984. The only problem was, Orson Wells didn't write that book. George Orwell did! I was horrified when I realized what I had done. It no longer mattered what the article was about or how brilliant my observations had been. To those who recognized my mistake, I had lost all credibility.

Tricky Titles

I once read an article entitled "Judy Garland's Favorite Vacation Spot". The first paragraph did mention something about Judy Garland and something about "vacation spots"; but the rest of the article was about traveling in the southwestern United States. In other words, the title was not exactly forthcoming. This type of trickery should be avoided at all costs. It does nothing but irritate readers and create a bad reputation for the writer. There is too much deceit in the world already.

Conclusion

The moral of this story is, when writing for publication or self-promotion, read, reread, and then let someone else read it too. Be aware of problematic words and double-check them. Make sure the article is easy to understand, but most importantly, that it is accurate and truthful. It's true that everyone makes mistakes, but writers must be especially careful to avoid them. Once our words are printed for the world to see, we cannot easily take them back.

Looking back at 2006, I think I accomplished about 80% of the goals I set for myself. I feel good about where I am. I hit almost all my business and financial goals, and missed a few personal ones (like having a six-pack) but that's ok. I am still working on that. Overall 2006 was a great year for me.

Now I want to talk to you about how to make 2007 your most profitable year ever. There are five keys I guarantee will help you have a successful year.

Key 1Look back at your year and analyze 2006. Start by analyzing 2006. Did you accomplish your financial goals? If not, why not? What kind of year was it for your business. Did you achieve your goals, and if you fell short, what did you learn from it? What didn't you do? What will you do next time?

You have to start by looking back at your year and analyzing what you achieved, what mistakes you made and what you accomplished. Once you do that you can prepare to set new goals for 2007. You'll have a clearer vision of where you want to be so you can set clear goals. And when setting your goals make sure they are very clear and specific. Don't say, "I want to make money." Say, "I want to make a million dollars and buy a 4,000 square foot home in Beverly Hills." You have to set specific goals and follow through. So that's the first key.

Key 2You have to invest in experts and delegate tasks. If you want to succeed in 2007 you have to outsource tasks you don't want to do that aren't worth your time. The biggest difference between Internet millionaire and non-millionaires is this: Internet millionaires build a team of experts around them. Their team helps them facilitate their goals. You have to do things yourself, but you can't go it alone. Start outsourcing small tasks. That's key 2.

Key 3Learn to be more productive. I am surprised people check their email 20 times a day. Would you check your mail box 20 times a day? You have to be more productive than that if you want to make next year your best ever. Work smarter. Do you spend 3 hours emailing? That isn't being productive. You have to do things that are income producing to realize your goals and have a good year. Spend some time creating new products. Approach JV partners. Do things that will have a direct impact on your bottom line. Checking email isn't one of them.

On to the next key.

Key 4You must find a way to dominate your niche. You have to be the King Kong of your niche, the big gorilla in your niche. The number one person in a niche makes the most money, or at least create the perception you are number one. No matter what you are doing you have to position yourself as a leading authority. You have to dominate your niche and become the number one company in your niche. That offers you tremendous leverage. Find ways to dominate through marketing etc. Keep that in mind.

Key 5 You have to have your big vision of what you want to accomplish in 2007. Once you have your big vision or goal, break that big vision down into an action plan, into smaller tasks. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. If you want to be a millionaire in 2007, break down the tasks. You have to make $90,000 a month. Ok, so you have to do what activities to achieve that? So, you have to make $22,500 a week or make $3,214 a day. Do the math. Figure out what you have to do. This makes your goal seem much smaller and more achievable.

Focus on the result when setting goals and break everything down into small tasks. Figure out what you have to do each day, week and month to realize your goals.

Make things happen. Learn from your mistakes and successes, learn to manage your time and be productive, dominate your niche and break your big vision into more sizable tasks.

Do all this and you will make 2007 your best year ever.

Google is like a girlfriend who won't talk. You're dying to woo her, but when you ask her what she likes, she bats her eyelashes and keeps quiet.

Now of course, Google isn't going to talk anytime soon about what goes into (and comes out of) its notorious algorithm -- its proprietary secret formula for calculating which pages will get listed when someone types in a search phrase.

Ah, but we SEO specialists and experts have our ways of figuring out what that seemingly fickle gal named Google likes and what she could care less about.

And, ahem, things have changed since 2001.

Google seems to be a lot more subtle and isn't charmed by obvious overtures like:

Keyword stuffing -- Yes, an alarming number of webmasters still do this and think they're getting away with something. If you haven't been penalized yet, it's because you've moved onto other tactics that your competitors are also employing. But it's only a matter of time before what separates you from the competition will come down to keyword stuffing"¦and guess who ain't gonna get asked to dance anymore? Hint: It's spelled Y-O-U.

Reciprocal linking campaigns -- If you're still relying on this, trash it right now. You're wasting time, money and server space. And you're spamming. You've probably got hundreds of worthless inbound links from PR0 sites. And Google will (if it hasn't already) recognize the "˜footprint' or template left behind by your link exchange software. Maybe you think you're being creative by naming your link pages something like "Cool Stuff I Really Like." But once the clothes come off and Google inspects the actual page, that savvy gal's gonna know she's seen this one-trick pony before.

Article exchange programs -- Strip it down and what you've got is a ramped up link exchange program, with a bunch of extra words around the links. Keep chasing this one and you'll end up right back where you started when mass link exchanges started to crumble. Yeah, Google's been around the block before on this one. Think you can fool Google by doing 3-way linking, 4-way or even 5-way linking -- if you can manage it? Don't take this the wrong way, but Google is smarter than you. By a landslide.

But Google is even more brilliant. Check out anything written on the shingle theory and you'll know that Google is no dumb blonde. Shoot. There's nothing more deadly than a desirable female with brains, is there?

So what's left? Well, in today's competition to seduce Google, the web sites that radiate natural charm and staying power will win in the end.

Natural charm means that you appeal to both visitors and spiders. This isn't a new idea, but it's more important than ever. Because while the search engines get savvier and savvier, so do Internet users and shoppers. And there are plenty of sites out there who deliver the best user experience while attaining high search engine rankings.

You can -- and should -- do the same. Instead of spending 3 hours trying to adjust your title tag just so"¦why not write one so that people who are looking at a search engine results page will actually click on your link. That is the first of many obvious goals, isn't it?

There's also a lot to be said about staying power. After all, you are in this for long haul, aren't you? If you're looking for a short-term relationship with Google, there are plenty of tricks to get ranked fast and then drop like yesterday's drawers.

But staying power"¦ahhh, that's what Google is really into these days. Register your domain for more than a year or two. After all, if you're planning to be around for a while, you're going to want your domain for a long time.

Of course, we now know that Google likes combing through domain registration information. And we really think that certain subtleties like age of domain are becoming not-so-subtle factors anymore in the race for first-page rankings.

Finally, think about all that time you're investing -- I mean, wasting -- on tactics like article exchanges and linking programs. Instead, spend that time hunting down sites that will actually want to do one-way links to you. They do exist, but you have to find them yourself, not with a program.

Yes, this will take a little bit of work, and you may actually have to pick up the phone to negotiate with a real person. But a one-way link from even a lowly PR2 site or page will carry more weight than 5 dozen 2-way or 3-way links from PR-whatever pages. Trust me, those pages that are involved in mass linking programs -- I mean, schemes -- will eventually drop to PR0 if they haven't already.

So that's it. Be honest, charming, hard working and stick around for a while. You'll win the girl -- er, Google -- every time.

"It was a long journey...and an expensive one. Until I saw the light and..." How many times have you read that in a sales letter? Tens, hundreds, thousands of times! I know I have. It's become an overworked cliché. But clichés are clichés because they are true! I know because I went through my own revelation about web business.

After suffering a stroke and facing up to loss of income and medical bills, the web seemed like the solution to everything. I struggled with every trick in the book...but I was distracted by the noise on the web and never able to stick with anything or get anything to work. But through my very inability to focus, I learned the number 1 lesson about the web - persistence is the heart of web success.

Then I had my revelation. I needed to find something I enjoyed doing. Then I would stick-to-it. Wow! So incredibly obvious, I felt sick about it! As I cast around, my choice fell on article marketing. I'd always liked writing, but could I write with discipline and persistently? Well, it turned out that I could but along the way I had to get past some roadblocks and re-learn some things.

I had to learn to pay more than lip-service to the absolute reality that "content is king" on the web. If you've taken that to heart you are in-synch with the search engines and more importantly the customers...article writing goes with the flow...

I had to learn a skill - how to write an article. Now, luckily that's a lot easier than it sounds...all the basic materials needed are on the web...Also, as writing is a skill, the more you do the easier it gets...you may never be a great author, but you can be a superb writer of short, fact-stuffed pieces that people absolutely love because they make a real difference to their lives...

I had to learn to exploit my new article writing skills systematically. Simply putting an article out there doesn't do much good. You need a planned program of articles that are written with multiple uses in mind. And you have to learn the skills of monetizing the targeted traffic you will certainly generate...

I had to make a vow, to avoid the self-defeating abuse of article writing. Duplicate articles, plagiarism, poor writing, unstructured and almost unreadable drivel, all these and more have to give way to solid, researched ideas with an original twist. If you do that the article users and readers will love you and you will succeed...

I had to take a vow of patience. I don't know if there really is a Google Sandbox into which all newbies are put, or whether Google, faced with billions of web pages, is simply 'slow' to get round the web. Whichever, Google itself admits that finding all your links can take significant time! But the patience is worth it. There are ways of making short term money with articles, but the real money is in the residual income you get from the way articles (and their links) stick around on the web, creating traffic and building your search engine position...

I had to invest in a few tools. Paid directory memberships to access the ezines, an article submission service to take out some of the drudgery of getting to the free article directories, mailing list and autoresponder services, and, of course, some web sites with domains and hosting. None of these broke the bank...

I came to article writing because as I looked into myself; writing and communicating ideas are things I deeply enjoy. But article writing is a way to promote all kinds of things. I could just as easily have had a passion for gardening and used articles as a way to talk about that. I would have ended up in the same place.

Easy money! Yes, because doing something you enjoy isn't hard. Requiring no work? No! But for those of you entranced by the myth of 'passive income', adding solid content to the web is a great way to achieve it. As your work spreads and you keep adding to it, it accumulates and sends you profit for years. Moreover, as 'content' is the life force of the web, writing articles goes with the flow and is immune to sudden changes of policy - like the Google Slap.

Writing and in particular article writing, is THE heart of web profits for the 'everyman' and 'everywoman' on the web and practice makes it easy! It is working for me...it can for you.

The fundamentals of copywriting include the basic knowledge of journalists "" the inverted pyramid.

The inverted pyramid is basically the placing of 4 W"(tm)s in the primary sentences of the articles, supported by the other W and H on the following discussions. Four W"(tm)s consist of what, when, where, and who. The other W which stands for why on the other hand, follows on the succeeding paragraphs, including the elaboration for the H which also stands for how, if necessary.

For the "Who," emphasize who are the benefactor of those products that you are promoting. Sight in your article that it"(tm)s the readers themselves, through this you are also meeting with your target market.

For "What," discuss the benefits of the products. What are the good changes that it can cause into their lives? Emphasize what is in the product.

For "When," tell the reader until when the offer is available. If it is a special offer, mention when it will end. When they will get the service? Will it be through time or is it just instantaneous?

For "Where," where can they contact to avail the offer? Where will it apply?

For "Why", discuss why readers need to avail the service or product? Why will they be benefited? Why do they need to order in a certain time? Why is the supply limited?

For "How," discuss how they can sign-up or order? How does the product work? How much is the cost? How much profit will they get for investing on it?

The benefit of following this form is that it facilitates easy reading for the online visitors"(tm), especially for readers who are busy people. The readers will be able to digest the important facts of the articles even they weren"(tm)t able to finish reading the entire article.

The process of writing is just an easy task; just observe a careful application of answering those questions that needs to appear in your article.

The technique for this is simply place yourself in your readers"(tm) shoes. If you are the reader what are the answers you want for your probable questions? What answer are you expecting from your queries regarding the products and services?

Simply answer those questions that are running in your mind and your copywriting is complete.

These instructions will not solely apply to online copywriting. It will also be applicable to direct market copywriting, and offline copywriting.

The preceding paragraphs are further techniques regarding online copywriting:

First, make it simple. Be straightforward if you can. Remember, no one wants to read a very lengthy and confusing discussion.

There is always great interest within the search engine marketing community whenever a search engine files for a patent. This is especially true for Google, which just recently released a new patent application - System and method for supporting editorial opinion in the ranking of search results (http://tinyurl.com/pambf).

However, we must keep in mind that just because a patent has been applied for or granted, the search engines may or may not implement the patent within their primary search results.

Nevertheless, these patents often do give us clues about what the search engines are looking for in a website.

Some of Google's patents have given us insight into the influence of anchor text, fresh content, themes, data history, link popularity, user behavior, and domain-related information.

However, Google's most recent patent application shows a shift from focusing on algorithm-based changes to the integration of a human editorial process.

Ultimately, Google is striving to create the best possible search results for their visitors. This patent proposes one possible method for doing that.

For the most part, search engine algorithms have reached their peak. We've known for quite some time now that an algorithm-based search engine can never permanently deliver excellent results. Why, you might ask. Simply because there will always be people out there trying to reverse-engineer the system.

Therefore, a cat and mouse game is created.

Out of this problem, a number of solutions have evolved. One of these is social search engines, which rank their results based on the wisdom of crowds. Another solution to arise from this problem is a human editorial process.

And now, Google has proposed in their patent application a hybrid mechanism which combines algorithmic search with a human based editorial process. By integrating editorial opinion, they are looking to enhance the quality of their search results.

The patent describes the process of identifying favored and non-favored sources in order to improve search results.

Favored Sources: Websites that are identified as being useful or containing authoritative content on the desired topic.

Non-Favored Sources: Websites that are identified as sources of misinformation or over-promotion on that particular topic.

Basically, Google is trying to patent a system for identifying good sites and bad sites in order to rank them accordingly in the SERPs.

They have proposed a semi-automatic system for determining favored and non-favored sources.

"In an implementation consistent with the present invention, the set of favored and non-favored sources may be automatically determined. To accomplish this, exemplary queries in the query theme may be classified into a set of topics (e.g., an online topic hierarchy, such as Yahoo!, Open Directory, or Google) using the approach for classification described above. Web hosts that appear in the URLs associated with the best matching topics to the query theme may be taken to be favored sources. For example, if the query theme is "sites that help in finding accommodation," then web hosts listed under the Open Directory category "http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Lodging" can be taken as favored sources. "

In addition, they have also combined with this a new system of relevancy and theme-based queries to improve their results.

"For example, for the query theme "sites that provide free downloads," web sites that actually provide free software downloads would be considered "favored sources" and web sites that mislead search engines with words such as "free" and "download" (popularly known as "spam techniques"), but do not in fact provide access to free downloads, would be considered "non-favored sources."

The patent application infers that "resource" sites have a brighter future in the search engines, especially Google. Therefore, don't be afraid to link out to other sites. The more value you provide to your visitor, the more you will be rewarded in the end. Your ultimate goal is to become an authority in your particular topic.

As an online marketer, you should also put more thought into the quality of the pages your site delivers as a whole. This is one of the very few patents that refers to a site as a whole rather than individual pages.

Conclusion:

For the smart SEO, this should not change your methods. As always, quality content is the key. If you are providing your visitors with relevant, quality content, then the search engines will reward you.

A number of interesting ideas were brought up in this patent. It appears that relevancy and quality content play a major role. However, there is still the question of which factors will be considered in determining favored sites. Will inclusion in DMOZ or Yahoo! be a requirement? If so, many webmasters may take a dim view of this approach.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Google changes over the next few years. Algorithm based search results will continue to be problematic because there will always be those who try to beat the system. Implementing some sort of human editorial opinion into the ranking process seems inevitable.

In the end, this is true for all of the major search engines. Yahoo, Google, MSN, and AskJeeves must all provide quality search results to compete within this industry. To be truly successful, they will have to go beyond algorithm-based results to deliver the most value for their visitors.

Doing business in the internet is very much different from the real world. It requires a lot of detailed attention especially if you're promoting a product or a service. Sometimes, despite your hard efforts to make things work, you still commit mistakes which greatly affects the operation of your business. In this case, you need expert advice from people who have been in that same road that you're heading.

There is no harm in depending in yourself wholly, but a little outside help can also do you good. Never turn down any help that might be extended to you, instead graciously accept it. Study it afterwards, and if you think it's a worthy suggestion of help, then perhaps you can implement it.

Advertising and promotions is the life of any internet-based business. If you're on the net, you can't meet your prospects personally, it is your site which attracts and caters to the customers needs. And so, if you don't have an effective advertising and promotion team, you can't reach the targeted market. Even if you do, the customers will not stay too long on your site, and will just click that 'back' button on the toolbar.

The first secret that you should remember is to cut out the things which are unnecessary. The size of your ad matters, you can cut it down, run it often to get much better results. Take note of the word 'repetition'. Smaller ads are even less expensive, and if the customer repeatedly views your ad, it will leave a mark in their heads.

Secret number two, don't leave your existing customers for new ones. Your present customers are within your reach so make the most out of them, but it doesn't mean though that you'll not look for new ones. Keeping your existing customers will prove to be more income generating in the long run.

The next important secret is to always keep in touch with your regular customers. You must be consistent is your actions, try to make a mail piece at least 8 times a year, 10 is the maximum. If you communicate with them more often, they won't be able to forget you, and will always come back.

Magazines and newspapers are great tools to advertise, a free publicity is also great. A feature article just about your business is a good way to get results, and sometimes it is even better than paid ads.

Your business' website is the lifeblood of your business, so make sure it is as interesting as possible. Make sure that it catches the attention of your customers first hand, because once they leave your site, chances are they will not find it again. The internet is a competitive market that only the dedicated ones that persevere thrives. So make sure that you're competitive enough to stay online.

Any business venture aims for financial security, and this can only be achieved through effective website advertising. There are different ways to promote your business; you can make use of copy writing, and other programs which suit your business' needs.

What should I do and in what order? Where should I begin? How can you stay motivated? Unless you have a system in place, you will be spinning your wheels.

Any business can be broken down into two parts - Vision (what do you want) & Systems (how will you get it). Entrepreneurs are usually challenged by the "How will you get it" part and skip this crucial step. Dr. Edwards Deming, a statistician who revolutionized American business practices, tells us that 97% of all failure is due to the SYSTEM and not the person.

Having a system that enables you to choose a set of simple, effective things to do consistently is the magic formula for professional services. Ever wonder where the newspapers all come from? I don't mean the ink and paper, I mean the writing.

Day after day, every newspaper in the country turns out hundreds of column inches of writing, tens of thousands of words. Often from the same handful of writers. Where do they get all those story ideas, day after day?

Meanwhile, you know you need to write articles, workbooks, even a book to support and promote your business, and you're left staring at a blank screen. It's not fair- how do they do it, and how can you write as much as a reporter?

Reporters have beats.

A reporter is assigned to an area of expertise: maybe it's health, or business, or farming. They know their area, or learn it, inside and out. They learn who the influential people and organizations are, and those people, if they are smart, know the reporter.

And they send press releases to the reporter, which the reporter reads. The good ones turn into stories.

Well, there you go. Your business is concerned with a certain area of life- that area of life is your beat. You're all set- git writin'! Except...

Except no one sends you press releases.

Not all reporters work off of press releases. Some work off of investigative journalism, you know, where all those movies come from. Like the other beat reporters, investigative journalists know their area, but instead of writing from press releases, they go digging for news.

They ask questions. They sniff around what's happening. And, when they find something, they report about it.

Think of the last time you found out about something interesting in your circle of friends- did you talk about it? I'm not talking about nasty gossip, just maybe a friend of yours met someone and they're getting married. You probably asked all kinds of questions- Who is this person? How old are they? What do they do? How did the two of them meet?

By the time you're done with your questions, you have a whole story. And you tell it to your next friend, with no lack of content.

At the bottom of every great story is a great question.

Just one great question. Your job isn't to find the article, it's to find the question. And where do questions naturally come from?

That's right, they come from your customers and clients. For instance, this morning one of my clients emailed me: "Mark, again a newsletter that strikes at the core of what I've been talking about with other health counselors this week... Can I ask how you decide what to write about each newsletter?"

Hmmm... what did I end up writing about this week?

It can't really be that simple, can it?

Keys to the Reporter on the Beat

But my clients' questions are old hat- won't the articles be humdrum, too?

Well, of course they're old hat, to you, because you've already answered them for yourself. But, they aren't boring to the client who is asking it, are they?

I'm guessing that if the client was sitting in front of you asking the question, you wouldn't be bored answering it, simply because your heart has a connection to your client or customer. Let go of thinking that the question needs to be awe-inspiring or fabulous- the important thing is the quality of heart connection.

Write the article as if you are just talking to your client, and you'll see the boredom evaporate like mist in the morning.

Wisdom needs an empty basin.

I don't know about you, but I find some of my most powerful answers have come through when I'm in front of a client or a class, and they've asked me a genuine stumper of a question. And then, the wisdom pours through, and I'm writing as fast as they are: "Hey, that's pretty good! I need to remember this one!"

Why does this happen? The need of the moment is what pulls the help through. If you are trying to write an article by simply thinking something up and pushing it at them, then you aren't responding to a genuine need in your readers' hearts.

A sincere question inclines your heart to want to be of help. Your own sincerity and heart connection allows the wisdom to pour through.

Repetition creates flow.

You might not like this one, but you'll want to write an article more often than once a month or once a quarter. Twice a month or weekly will give you the best results. Why?

For the same reason that a single drop of water every ten minutes will take thousands of years longer than the mile-wide Columbia River takes to wear a channel through the gorge east of Portland.

The more you write, the easier it will be. It will also take the weight off of each article needing to be a Pulitzer Prize winner. It's just the weekly article, answering a question. If it's not your best, at least it helped someone, and the next one comes next week.

Try it right now. I wrote this article in 45 minutes,not including editing time. Pick a question from a client, and answer it in 12-20 paragraphs. Bingo- that's your next week's article.

Open up multiple accounts on clickbank to track at either the adgroup level or even the keyword level. In the case of tracking on the adgroup level, assign a different account to each adgroup that you want to track. You can name your accounts ABC1, ABC2, etc. and then correlate sales in each account to the appropriate adgroup. Use a spreadsheet to organize your account names and corresponding adgroups.

Apply the same concept down to the keyword level. Reserve some of your account names for testing actual keyword phrases. Detach from your keywords

Do not become attached to your key words. If a key word you have found or a group of key words you have found are receiving numerous impressions but no clicks, delete them and get rid of them.

Getting rid of unwanted impressions will boost the click through rates of your ad, increase the position of your existing key words that are getting clicks, and make you more money.

Bid on competitors names

Bidding on your competitors' trademark names, brand name and
product names is an excellent way to drive related traffic to your
site. It is proven to convert traffic and to get a higher conversion
rate then generic keywords.

Just be careful not to use your competitors name and brands in
your ad, as this can confuse your customers, reduce your
conversion rates and also, attract the legal department of your
competitors.

Another way to partner with Google is to download their free toolbar. This is a very useful little bar that sits at the top of your browser page. It is fully loaded with all sorts of tools to save you time. It is helpful for Google as well because by means of the toolbar they can check on what people are searching for the most and fine tune their search engine accordingly.

How does the Toolbar help you?

1. Google search: This icon allows you to:

Go to Google's home page. Google's advertising tools can be accessed from here.

You can quickly check your Google Adwords campaigns and Google Adsense account.

This also allows you to search for any URL, key phrase or keyword from your own browser without having to go to Google's homepage and saves a lot of time

2. Google News: a useful short cut to Google news. Here you can view all sorts of news items from various newspapers. It is useful for keeping up with the latest news in your industry.

3. Page Rank: You can check your page rank and other websites with this little meter in the center of the tool bar. If it is grey you are not indexed if it shows green you have a ranking. This ranges from 1-10 with 10 being the highest.

4. Pop-up Blocker: Blocks those annoying little pop ups and can be turned off if you want.

5. Blog this: You can access Google's own blogging site and place a free blog here. This will be picked up by Googlebots and can help to index your web pages faster.

6. Translating a web page: This is a useful feature as it this will enable you to translate a web page. This can be valuable for special research.

7. Auto fill: This is very useful for filling forms and again saves a lot of time

8. Spell check: corrects spelling errors in web forms, discussion groups and web-based mail.

Can the Google Toolbar help improve Page Rank? Yes and here's how:

4. There is a backwards link button-this allows you to check the links of a site.

As you can see this free Google tool bar is a very useful little tool. It saves you time and allows you to check on other websites. It is always good to keep an eye on your competition.

This is just another way you can partner with Google to benefit your business. Google is not an unfriendly giant they welcome webmasters to partner with them. After all when you think about it the more webmasters they have on their side the better it is for them. They in turn can place their Google ads with us (Google Adsense) and check on the searches we are doing. This allows them to improve their search engine, which also helps us when we have to search for something. This is just another win, win situation for you and Google.

It's the problem which most people have problems with. If you can make your visitors stick to your website then the traffic you create should accumulate - problem solved.

Making that traffic return is the major challenge and one of the so called "secrets" of build a successful Adsense website.

What is better than having visitors continuing to return to your website, without any effort on your part? You definitely need to make your Adsense website sticky and below are my 5 tips to achieve this.

1. Have good, interesting content. This is the one of the main reasons why I favour blogs advertising Adsense. You can easily write content and update it on your website.

It's much easier updating a blog than a website. Unless of course, your website has a content management system (CMS) like a blog.

People browse on the internet to read content. So if the information provided by you is good and it is updated on a regular basis, the user will bookmark your site and will return. Even possibly a few times a week to read your content.

2. Having a newsletter subscription or a mini course sign up form on the front of your website. Once visitors sign up to your form, they are on your email list.

You can use an autoresponder to follow up with them and also email to notify them that your content is updated.

Having your visitors go on your email list will remind them of your existence so that they visit you again. However, you have to make sure that your mini-course provides good content so they will read it.

4. Announcing upcoming events. In your content, you should always specify what is coming up in the next few days. Such as updated report on your particular niche.

This will increase the visitor's awareness of your website and they will remember to visit your website again sometime in the future to check out what you mentioned before.

This is a very powerful technique to build repeat visitors and it only requires a mention of what is coming in the next few days.

5. The last technique to ensure repeat visitors is to have a schedule of the updates to your website and stick to it. If your blog advertising Google Adsense is rarely updated, the chances of the visitor coming back is near zero.

People love reading good content but if they return and find that your content is the same they will rarely return. The reason is because they have a lot of other choices. The web is so clickable, you've got to get their attention.

If you stick to having updates on regular basis such as once in 2 days, then the visitor will return to read the latest on your website.

Hey! I just figured out how to both promote my website and cut down on my workload. I know what I will do: instead of writing five articles a week to distribute, I will take a single article and change it slightly to produce five different "versions." What a great idea! I will change the title also, so that there are five different titles. Then, I will change the introductory paragraph a bit and alter my word choice a bit. Whew! That is going to be much easier than writing five separate and unique articles each week.

Now, if only it were that simple.

What is wrong with the idea of writing an article and revising it so that you can get five back links instead of one? Isn't this what has made the business of Private Label Reprints (PLRs) so popular? In theory, doing something like this could save a lot of time and generate a great deal of content. Then, you could send various editions of your article to different publishing websites. But...

Many Distributors Will Prevent Duplication

One of the problems with rewriting the same article is that many distributors have mechanisms in place to prevent the publication of both pieces. Article distributors do not do this to harm your business; in fact, these limits are in place to protect your career. If you take the time to write an informative and helpful article to generate traffic back to your site, you probably do not want someone plagiarizing your work. This is why article distribution services work to prevent people, even you, from publishing an article very similar to what you've written.

Instead of being frustrated with the distributors, we should in fact thank them for protecting our work. Some article distributors run a code that will test five strings of data against previously submitted articles; some only use one code to match against, but they all aim to prevent duplication of content.

If you don't use an article distributor-if you submit the piece on your own-then you don't need to worry about duplicate content, right? Wrong. Imagine being a Webmaster who runs a site that accepts article submissions. What are you going to think when you get five articles that are obviously the same, with only simple changes made? Do you think that, as a Webmaster, you would publish these articles or delete the authors from your list for safety purposes?

Webmasters and E-Zine publishers are looking for new and unique content that will provide their readers with useful information. When you revise an article and send it to them, you are not giving them the freshness they look for. In fact, you are likely to irritate your editors.

Credibility

Another reason not to submit a revised article is because it takes away from your credibility as a writer or expert. Let's say that a customer comes across one of your articles and loves it. This reader thinks, "Wow, the author knows what he is talking about, I will look for more of his work." The reader searches for you on the Internet and reads a few more of your articles, only to realize that it is the same information, altered only slightly. Do you think this reader will convert to a sale on your website?

More than likely, this reader will become frustrated because he or she was hoping to learn more about you and your services or product. Instead, they will see that your writings do not offer unique information. Imagine buying a book from a respected author. Imagine that, when the author puts out a new book, you buy it, only to realize that they've rehashed the same information for republication. Would you buy a third book from this author? Would the writer seem a credible, knowledgeable or trustworthy authority?

Revising the same article over and over again will likely end up hurting your business. There is nothing more embarrassing for an author than to be ousted (and rightly so) from a forum for plagiarizing, even if you are plagiarizing your own work.

Quality Over Quantity

There are many reasons why it is a bad idea to submit multiple, slightly altered versions of the same article for publication. If you struggle with writing five articles each week, then only commit to writing one or two and composing them to the best of your ability. It is far better to go for quality than quantity in the article reprint business. A customer will appreciate finding a few articles from you that offer new and fresh information rather than finding dozens written by you that effectively state the same thing.

If you want to achieve both quality and quantity, you may consider hiring a ghostwriter. This will keep you from facing the loss of respect and credibility that often results from rewriting a single article.
